The guitar works of Mexican composer Manuel María Ponce were created over a 25-year period between 1923 and 1948. During these years he composed six sonatas, three variation groups, two suites, twentyfour preludes, two sonatinas, a sonata with harpsichord, and a concerto with orchestra among other pieces. Ponce’s strong compositional output for the guitar repertoire, and his close and sometimes controversial, collaboration with guitarrist Andrés Segovia, make him one of the most important composers for the instrument.
